Kingsbury Pine Pool

Eliminator - 02/06/2017

Always likely to be a very tight match. We are back at Pine Pool and are once again privileged to be allowed access through the hours of darkness. Over the years we have seen Kingsbury develop from a doubles water into a twenties water and there are now fish present over 30lbs with a good head of smaller fish to keep the buzzers going. There are plenty of facilities on site. Including toilets, shops and cafe. Gates are locked over night. Parking is allowed in the designated places around the lake.

Kingsbury Pine Pool 13 Peg map

Post Match Report

This event turned out to be something of a two horse race between John Bowman fishing on his own in peg 1 against Mark Sawyer and Simon Wheeler in peg 10. John came out first in the draw and promptly picked peg 1. While Mark and Simon came out in fourth place. These two pegs slogged it out through the entire match and both ended up with 11 fish each. They also had the two biggest fish of the weekend. Simon with a 29lb 13oz common and John with a 29lb 10oz common. The deciding factor was the general stamp of the fish landed. John managed to average 21lb per fish, which was an excellent achievement considering he was fishing on his own due to his dad and fishing partner John Bowman Snr being to ill to make the event. The guys in peg 10 could only manage a 15lb+ average, and with the same number of fish caught by both competitors this proved to be the difference. Both pegs worked equally hard for their results but you can only catch what’s in front of you. I have run events at this venue for many years and I can honestly say I have not seen anyone fish the well renowned reeds peg as well as Mark and Simon did this weekend for a very long time.

The top three from this match go into the Midlands final at Branston Water Park in August. So the fight for the third place turned out to be a battle between four pairs, who were all in touching distance with each other. With the fish this water holds it was still wide open going into the last morning. Andy Goodall and Liam Atkins hung on to clinch it by a mere 7oz. This proved to be a display of good angling skills, when you consider they came out last in the draw but still managed to bank four fish for 80lb 10oz.

Aj Collier and Tom Derome had a fantastic brace of fish hitting the scales at 23lb 8oz and 29lb 6oz on Sunday morning to keep the pressure on. It was a nail biting time for Andy and Liam waiting for the final hooter, but with no more fish out after first light we had a result from a really competitive match. I think you’ll agree from the stats below what a great well run venue this is. The rangers worked tirelessly to keep Pine Pool improving and evolving year on year.

There were 38 fish caught for a total weight of 699lb 1oz. 14 x 20lb+ fish including 3 over 29lb, 22 doubles and only 2 singles. This averaged out at just under 18.5 lbs per fish.
