Eliminator - 20/03/2015

Barston is one of those incredibly prolific carp / match venues that, in the right conditions and on the right day, can produce massive weights. Indeed it is one of only 4 venues in the country to be in the 1000lb club during an official competition; the others being the famous Drayton Reservoir, Thorpe Lea, and Elphicks North Lake. For this qualifier we split the lake into 3 sections of 10 anglers with the top three weights in each section proceeding to the final.
2014 Midlands Qualifier saw Steve Blow and Rob Burgess nearly break the carp match record on here. They were 60lb odd short. Wonder if anyone can do it this year.
Anglers are allowed to use the golf clubhouse which means we have some of the best catering facilities located at a fishery in the country. There is a bar open from 7am, food available at all times to eat in or takeaway, and toilets and showers available. Please bear in mind other users of the clubhouse and we respectfully ask you to remove any outerwear which may have been in contact with fish before going into the clubhouse. Also if any weddings on please keep out of he function room.
As you will all know now this final will be scored by the Best 5 fish caught for each pair in the 48 hours. This cuts out any peginess on the lake and gives everyone a fair chance.

Pre Match Report

This Midlands qualifier is split into 3 sections. A, B & C. The top 3 from each section will qualify for the final at Old Mill Birch Lake 14th, 15th and 16th August. This is the earliest a carp match has been held on this venue so it will be interesting to see how the fish respond and what the results are. This is a 48 hour pairs event, starting at 9am Friday and finishing at 9am on the Sunday. We always carry out 3 hourly weigh ins on this one up until 9pm. (During the night when necessary)

Post Match Report

C Section was a lot tighter than the previous two, with no more than a mere 26lb separating the top three pairs who caught 44 fish between them. However the other three pairs in the section only shared 7 fish between them. These results show how tightly grouped the fish can be at this time of year.

Jon Fern and Dean Winsbury in C4 took an early lead and held it until tea time Saturday. Although at that stage Ste Alford and Dean Crust along with Phil Higgins and Simon Bury were starting to close the gap. By 6am Sunday Alford and Crust had taken the lead with 15 fish for 175lb 6oz which included a nice 21lb+  common, the biggest fish caught in the entire match. Fern and Winsbury were now in second with 149lb 6oz. Followed closely by Higgins and Bury on 141lb 3oz.

At the final hooter neither Alford and Crust or Fern and Winsbury were able to add to their totals. However Higgins and Bury brought a 12lb 2oz mirror to the scales to take second place with 153lb 5oz.
