Post Match Report

We are doing very brief reports for these finals as they are being filmed for BT Sport and you will be able to watch them unfold on TV later in the year.

Prior to this event the weather had been warm and dry with really high pressure and the lake had not been fishing to it’s full potential. Since we arrived to set up on the Thursday there was a definite change in the air with the pressure dropping steadily to just over 1,000mb, with it came the rain which we hoped would freshen things up and get the fish on the move. However best laid plans and all that. After starting the match at noon on Friday, there was only one fish out on the Friday night during a heavy downpour. When I woke on Saturday morning there had been no more fish and I was starting to wonder what had gone wrong with my prediction.

Around 2pm someone flicked the switch and the fish began to come steadily. First one out was a cracker of 32lb 9oz to eventual winners Ste Alford and Dean Crust, who finished up with 3 fish to 61lb 1oz. Runners up were Phil Higgins and Simon Bury with  four fish to 43lb. Third was Wayne Mansford with one fish for 25lb 12oz, his partner Ryan Need was sunning himself in the Canary Islands catching carp at Lake Chira. Fourth and final BCC qualifying place went to Daniel Holliday and Gaz Broadhurst with one fish for 22lb 2oz.
