Branston Water Park

Final - 04/09/2015

This is a large mature gravel pit of approx 29 acres. All pegs are made for the carp angler and each has their own rules. These can be found on the Burton Mutual web site. There is a good stock of Mirror and Commons, aprox 300. The biggest having been caught at 43lb 8oz. Barbed hooks only and use of leaders inc lead core is allowed.
The bay between the car park and the canal is the deepest area (16’), the depth gets shallower the further you go along the pool with there being only 3’ along the reed beds. There are islands along the middle of the pool.
There are toilets on site. The gates are locked in the evenings but we will have a key to allow people in and out. There are takeaways in the village of Branston right next door.
We are very sorry but practice sessions are not allowed on this water. Fair to everyone then.

Post Match Report

The horn sounded at noon on Friday and within the first hour 3 pairs had landed a fish each. By Friday night, England internationals Jamie Londors and Billy Flowers had taken a commanding lead with 3 fish putting them on just over 42lb. While 4 of the pairs had just a single fish.

We had a night of heavy rain and lower temperatures and there was no more action until Saturday morning when Daniel Holiday and Aj Collier landed one of the lakes original stock, a nice common of 21lb 12oz. The rest of the day saw Dan and Aj add a mirror of 20lb+ to their tally, while father and son pairing of Jeff and Tony Reynolds entered the fray with 3 stockies for 23lb+. The last fish of the day went to Jamie and Billy allowing them to consolidate their lead with a low double. We now had a contest on our hands.

By breakfast Sunday, Jeff and Tony had added another 3 fish, putting them in runner up spot. While Dan and Aj bought a lovely 25lb mirror to the scales, leapfrogging the rest into top spot. Jamie and Billy were still on the same weight, just 15oz behind in 3rd place.

Defending 2014 champions Phil Higgins and Simon Bury came with a late surge but could only manage 4th place.
