NCC 2016 Newbridge Pegging Map

Lovely to be back here for the third year running. This is an absolutely gorgeous venue with a beautiful property built on stilts overlooking the lake. Newbridge owners Lance and Michelle Bramley live here and I can’t think of anything nicer than walking out onto one of the balconies to that view. We were lucky enough to visit one winter and the view was even stunning then with carp showing in the water below us.

This year’s event should be good as quite a few of the anglers have done well here in our events previously. Also there is a bit of excitement in the fact that Amanda Curtis, our very own lady marshal along with partner Margaret Hegarty, are representing Team AJ Baits, as the first ever ladies only pairing in one of our events.  To add a bit more spice, Margaret’s husband James and his cousin Garry will be fishing against them.

Nathan Allen of Pixifly Media, who carries out all our filming, is fishing with Phil Greenwood. Let’s see how he copes with things on the other side of the fence.

Good luck to you all with your quest to reach this year’s Northern Carp Cup Final at Wyreside Sunny 2 on the 12th, 13th and 14th August.

Post Match Report

For the first time, this normally prolific Northern carp water just didn’t produce the goods. This is really surprising looking at previous years catch reports. I think the weather had a big part to play in this with lots of rain falling over the last week and even more at the weekend during the course of the event cooling the water temperature down. This match was more a tale of fish lost than fish landed. Almost all the competitors suffered losses which meant that only 5 out of the 12 pegs brought fish to the scales.

It turned out that the guys that came out 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the draw all finished in the top three and qualified for the Northern final, at least their peg choices were bang on. Up until 10am on Sunday morning five pairs all had one fish apiece and it was wide open. With only 2 hours remaining, Dan Robson landed a pristine ghostie common of 22lb 15oz to go with the fish they had already caught, giving them a total weight of 39lb 6oz. Ben Escritt and Christopher Deaton took runners up spot with a fish of 15lb 6oz. With third place going to Mark Hardcastle and Chris Ehlert on 13lb 15oz. This pair thoroughly deserved to qualify as they banked a second fish which escaped from the retaining sling before it could be weighed. Following closely behind was Simon Bury on 10lb 9oz with Ady Baumforth and Simon Tansley on 10lb 7oz.

At least everybody was still in with a chance right up to the final hooter which is not always the case but the fish just wouldn’t play ball.
